The annual Met Gala has become known for its unforgettable musical performances that captivate guests and onlookers alike. From Rihanna’s powerful rendition of “Bitch Better Have My Money” to Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s stunning duet of “When You Believe,” the gala never fails to deliver when it comes to music.
However, for the 2025 event celebrating “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” a single act simply wouldn’t suffice. This year, the gala paid tribute to the Black dandy with a lineup of musical talent that began right on the red carpet. As celebrities made their grand entrance, the 20-person chorus Silk & Sound serenaded them with a soulful rendition of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” setting the tone for the evening.
Inside the Great Hall, Silk & Sound continued to impress with covers of classic R&B, disco, and reggae hits. From Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Let’s Groove” to Michael Jackson’s “Rock With You,” the group kept the energy high all night long. The Matt Jones Orchestra, led by conductor Matt Jones, added an extra layer of musical magic to the performances.
A special interlude arranged by Met Gala co-chair Pharrell Williams featured the Voices of Fire choir from Hampton Roads, Virginia. Directed by Bishop Ezekiel Williams, Pharrell’s uncle, the choir delivered heartfelt renditions of popular songs like “JOY (Unspeakable)” and, of course, “Happy.”
As guests mingled in the Engelhard Court during cocktail hour, the High and Mighty Brass Band from New York took the stage to announce dinner with lively performances of “No Diggity” and “Here Comes the Hotstepper.” Established in 2009, this eight-person band brought a unique energy to the evening’s festivities.
Overall, the 2025 Met Gala was a night to remember, filled with incredible musical performances that paid homage to the rich history of Black style and culture. From the red carpet to the dance floor, the gala showcased the power of music to bring people together and create unforgettable moments.
