Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Introduces Puppets in Season 4 Teaser
âStar Trek: Strange New Worldsâ is boldly going where no âStar Trekâ show has gone before: to the world of puppets.
At the âStar Trek Universeâ panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the cast and executive producers of âStrange New Worldsâ debuted a teaser for the fourth season of the series, which just finished production. It revealed Capt. Christopher Pike sitting on the captainâs chair of the Enterprise â but as a puppet.
âThere might have been an unexpected and terrible transporter accident,â said executive producer Akiva Goldsman on the stage at Hall H. âWhich might have had some unexpected felt-like effects.â
The puppets were created by Jim Hensonâs Creature Shop for the episode, which is directed by Jordan Canning (âFragile Rock: Back to the Rockâ). Itâs in keeping with the âStrange New Worldsâ approach of treating each episode as its own unique genre, including horror, screwball comedy, costume fantasy, and even a musical episode and a crossover episode with the animated series âStar Trek: Lower Decks.â
In a 2024 Variety cover story on the future of âStar Trek,â Goldsman even teased the puppet episode. âAs long as weâre in storytelling that is cogent and sure-handed, Iâm not sure there is,â Goldsman said when asked if there was a genre the show couldnât handle. âCould it do Muppets? Sure. Could it do black and white, silent, slapstick? Maybe!â
Stars Ethan Peck, Rebecca Romijn, Jess Bush, Paul Wesley, and Christina Chong were joined by executive producers Alex Kurtzman, Henry Alonso Myers, and Goldsman on the stage at Hall H. Goldsman addressed the announcement that âStrange New Worldsâ will be concluding with its fifth season, noting that their plan is to take the series up to the first day Capt. James Kirk (Wesley) takes command of the Enterprise. Then he asked fans to write to Paramount (and its new parent company) Skydance so they can make âStar Trek: Year Oneâ â set during the classic original series time period of the franchise.
To further underline the showâs genre-hopping, the next episode of âStrange New Worlds,â a period murder mystery entitled âA Space Adventure Hourâ played in its entirety to the audience at Comic-Con.

Makes you wonder if the writers are puppets too lol
Scott Vela I think theyâre just stoned.
Love it
đ
And they wonder why Old-school Trekkies won’t watch this show
Will Nisbet oh please. It’s one episode. I’m sure it’s easily bypassed if it’s on streaming.
I’ve seen shows pull crazier stuff: time travel, musicals etc. đ€·đœââïž
Will Nisbet So true. I tried, and I wanted to like this show, but they lost me after the musical episode. đ
Will Nisbet watch, just not thrilled
Will Nisbet oh, I am a very old school Trekkie, and I like this show just fine.
I seriously want one of these Captain Pike puppets!
Guess that’s a season I’ll be happy to miss. I’m sure some will enjoy it and that’s great…something for everyone.
Absolutely no respect for ST, so sad.
