Second Random Subway Shove in Brooklyn Leaves Victim in Stable Condition

Another disturbing incident of unprovoked violence occurred over the weekend in Brooklyn, as a 35-year-old man was pushed onto train tracks by a stranger at the 36th Street R train platform in Sunset Park. This marks the second random subway shove of the year, leaving authorities and sources baffled by the senseless act of aggression.

The victim was standing on the southbound platform around 4:55 a.m. on Sunday when the assailant approached him and without uttering a word, forcefully knocked him onto the roadbed. The attacker quickly fled the scene and remains at large, as police continue their search for the suspect.

Fortunately, no trains were approaching the station at the time, and the victim was assisted back onto the platform by responding officers. He was then taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where he is currently in stable condition recovering from the ordeal.

The suspect, depicted in photos released by the NYPD, is described as having dark curly hair, a short beard, and was last seen wearing a black and gray jacket with khakis. The incident is a chilling reminder of the vulnerability commuters face in public transportation settings.

This latest incident comes on the heels of a similar unprovoked subway shove on New Year’s Day, where a medical student allegedly pushed a 72-year-old man into a moving Bronx train. The victim in that case was knocked unconscious but ultimately survived, thanks to prompt medical attention.

The suspect in the New Year’s incident, Anton Aleshin, was apprehended and charged with attempted murder. He is currently being held without bail as the legal process unfolds. These incidents underscore the need for increased vigilance and safety measures in public spaces.

Despite these alarming incidents, officials had previously noted a decrease in major subway crimes at the end of 2025, with a 4% drop compared to the previous year. The decline in robberies and shootings was particularly significant, signaling progress in maintaining public safety.

Anyone with information regarding the latest subway shove is urged to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or visit the Crimestoppers website to submit tips anonymously. The public’s assistance is crucial in ensuring that perpetrators of such senseless acts are brought to justice.
