Strong Island, a production company owned by Christopher Tuffin, has recently acquired the worldwide feature film and television rights to the Inspector Brant crime-novel series from the estate of the late Irish author Ken Bruen. This series follows the story of a hard-bitten London detective, who was previously portrayed by Jason Statham in the 2011 film “Blitz.”
As part of the agreement, Strong Island will be developing a new series of films based on the Inspector Brant novels, starting with adaptations of Bruen’s “Calibre” and “Vixen.” British writer-director Tom Edmunds, known for his work on “Dead in a Week,” is set to write and direct both projects. Additionally, Edmunds recently completed work on “The Butler,” a period action-thriller set in 1920s London, starring Jean Reno and Tom Hollander.
Christopher Tuffin will be producing the Inspector Brant films through Strong Island, while also overseeing a busy slate of projects. This includes “Alphas” with Martin Henderson, a remake of the classic John Wayne western “Angel and the Badman,” “Last Meals” starring Mads Mikkelsen and Boyd Holbrook, and “Princess” featuring Lucy Hale. Tuffin’s previous releases have seen success, with films like “Canary Black” starring Kate Beckinsale and “Peppermint” with Jennifer Garner reaching top spots on streaming platforms.
Representatives for the Bruen estate, including Joel Gotler and the Philip Spitzer Agency, played a key role in securing the deal with Strong Island. They will also serve as executive producers alongside the estate of Ken Bruen. Jere Hausfater represented Strong Island in the negotiations.
Fans can catch a preview of “The Butler” at the American Film Market on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the AMC Century City 13, with sales being handled by K5 Intl. Strong Island’s upcoming projects, including the Inspector Brant series, are highly anticipated by fans of crime novels and detective stories.
