Kris Srikkanth, a former opener for Team India, thinks that Suryakumar Yadav, the captain who led the team to victory in the 2026 T20 World Cup, might be smiling after India’s poor performance in the T20I series against England. Despite his remarkable record as a T20I captain and recent success in the T20 World Cup, Suryakumar was removed from his captaincy and the team, with Shreyas Iyer taking over.
Under Iyer’s leadership, the team has faced a significant downturn, losing six consecutive matches. India experienced a humiliating 0-2 whitewash in the T20I series against Ireland during Iyer’s debut as captain, followed by a 0-4 defeat against England.
Speaking after the defeat against England on his YouTube channel, Cheeky Cheeka, Srikkanth commented (2:10):
“India got demolished as usual. Only Buttler was sleeping so the Indian bowlers ensured to wake him up. They almost welcomed him clobbering them by feeding him balls to hit all over the ground. Everyone is just taking turns to smash the Indian bowling. Suryakumar Yadav must be having a great time and enjoying himself seeing this team. Harry Brook looks at the Indian bowling like badam halwa. The Indian bowling is super tasty for him.”
In the final T20I against England, India faced a severe defeat with their bowling, conceding 257 in 20 overs and losing by 56 runs.
“A few just padded runs in a match long dead” – Kris Srikkanth on India’s batting in the 5th T20I
Kris Srikkanth criticized India’s batsmen for scoring runs in a lost cause during the final T20I against England in Southampton on July 11. Chasing a daunting target of 258, Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma managed to score quick half-centuries, giving the final score some respectability.
“A few just padded runs in a match long dead. Chasing 260, you have to smash it from the get-go, which helped a few score meaningless runs. The only good thing the Indian batters did was show some intent. They at least went for the target, even if it was impossible,” said Srikkanth (via the aforementioned source).
India encountered their first consecutive T20I series losses since early 2019, when they lost back-to-back series against New Zealand and Australia.
