Taylor Swift shared details about what Travis Kelce told her just before he proposed back in August.
The Grammy-winning artist, age 35, made a guest appearance on Jimmy Fallon‘s show on Monday, October 6. Vibrantly dressed in a metallic sequined minidress paired with sparkly platform heels, Swift discussed the release of her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl. During the segment, Fallon, aged 51, congratulated her on her recent engagement to Kelce after two years of dating.
“Taylor, that is incredible,” Fallon remarked, admiring the stunning diamond ring that Kelce, aged 36, placed on Swift’s finger.
“Itâs wild,” she noted regarding her ring, explaining that Kelce had been holding on to it for quite some time before finally presenting it to her.
Swift admitted she finds herself admiring the ring “all the time. It doesnât feel completely real to me. I just think, like, âWow!â”
She praised her fiancĂ©, saying, “Heâs truly my favorite person everâno offense to anyone else. The idea that this is the person I get to be with forever makes it all so special. Every time I look at [the ring], I think, âI get to be with him forever,â and it symbolizes that.”

When Fallon brought up the timing of the proposal, noting that it followed soon after Swift recorded an episode for Kelceâs “New Heights” podcast, Swift humorously remarked, “I think he used the podcast as a distraction, a decoy to keep me from peeking out the windows of the house.”
She elaborated, “Whenever he records the podcast, itâs not like he shuts all the windows completely.”
But just before Kelce proposed in a beautifully adorned backyard, Swift mentioned that there were indeed “fully blackout drapes on every window in that house.”

At that moment, she noted, “I started to sense that he was feeling nervous about the podcast, mentioning, âMy heart is racing… I want this to meet your expectations.’ I had never seen him skittish before, as he usually exudes confidence professionally.”
Swift shared that Kelce suggested, “How about we take a stroll around the backyard with a glass of wine?” She replied, “I would always love to do that.â
It was in that moment that she realized why all the windows were covered and why he was so anxious. “It was the ideal scenario,” she stated.
In a lighthearted segment where Fallon asked Swift to verify some recent rumors, Swift humorously revealed that her good friend Ed Sheeran found out about her engagement through Instagram.
“That’s spot on,” she chuckled, covering her face in amusement. She explained, “I have an explanation! He doesnât use a phone.” According to Swift, “Thatâs one of the things I admire about him. Itâs uniquely him. But when Iâm trying to think of whom to reach out to, I look through my contacts and realize he hasnât been in touch lately.â
Calling Sheeran, 34, one of her âfavorite people everâ and âlike family,â she admitted, “When the news broke, I thought, âOh no, we forgot to let Ed know!â”
Swift’s appearance on the Tonight Show is part of a series of visits to the NBC late-night show throughout her career, the last being in October 2022 to promote her 10th studio album, Midnights.
Swiftâs interview on The Tonight Show follows a hectic release weekend for the singer. Following the drop of her album on Friday, October 3, she premiered The Official Release Party of a Showgirl in theaters across the U.S., providing fans an inside look at the making of the album, along with the music video for her lead single, “The Fate of Ophelia,” and lyric videos for the remaining tracks. She also appeared on The Graham Norton Show the same Friday for her first televised interview in the Showgirl era.
After wrapping up the release party, Swift made her lyric videos and the âFate of Opheliaâ music video available on YouTube on Sunday, October 5.
This week, she is set to continue her television promotion with an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers in the early morning of Thursday, October 9.
Amid all this, Swift is enjoying her time with her fiancé and happily flaunting her engagement ring. Kelce, for his part, has shared his excitement about the proposal publicly for the first time during a September interview with Erin Andrews.
“Iâm quite the emotional guy, so there were some tears shed here and there,” he remarked. “But this has been an exhilarating journey leading up to this moment. I canât wait to spend my life with her.”
Kelce expressed that Swift has “brought excitement and an appreciation for life that has made me a better man, made me a better person, and has made me feel more at ease in my own skin.”
