A disturbing incident has rocked the quiet town of Palmyra, Nebraska, as a sixth-grade teacher, Cody Pester, was arrested on suspicion of sexual abuse of a former student. The 26-year-old educator surrendered to the authorities on Monday, January 26, following allegations of misconduct with a student he claimed to have met during local athletic events.

Pester, who also served as a girl’s wrestling coach at Palmyra Junior-Senior High School, is accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with the victim, who is now 18 years old. The troubling details reveal that Pester initiated communication with the teenager when she was just 17 years old, leading to a series of inappropriate interactions.

The investigation into Pester’s actions uncovered over 13,000 text messages exchanged between him and the victim, many of which were of a sexual nature. Shockingly, it was revealed that Pester had raped the minor girl in July 2025, violating Nebraska law that prohibits any school employee from engaging in sexual activity with a student.

The authorities are urging anyone with information related to Pester’s misconduct or potential additional victims to come forward and contact the sheriff’s office at (402) 441-6500. The safety and well-being of students remain a top priority for Palmyra Superintendent Michael Hart, who promptly terminated Pester upon learning of the allegations.

In a letter addressed to parents, Hart assured the community that counseling and support services would be provided to students affected by the situation. He emphasized the importance of allowing the legal process to unfold while expressing deep concern over the incident.

As the investigation progresses, Pester is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, January 28, with the outcome of his plea unknown at this time. The school district is committed to ensuring the safety of its students and encourages families to reach out with any concerns they may have.
