Two separate incidents of violence shook the streets of Rose Hill on Sunday evening, leaving an innocent teenage girl shot and a 24-year-old man stabbed in the behind. The chaos unfolded just a minute apart and a couple of city blocks away from each other, following the conclusion of the Mexican Day Parade nearby.
The first victim, a 17-year-old girl, was struck by a bullet in her left shoulder at the intersection of 27th Street and Park Avenue around 5:01 p.m. The NYPD confirmed that the teenage girl was not the intended target of the gunfire, indicating that she was simply an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire.
Just a minute before the shooting incident, a 24-year-old man was stabbed in the right buttocks near 28th Street and Madison Avenue. Both victims were swiftly transported to Bellevue Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
A person of interest is currently in custody in connection with the shooting of the teenage girl, although official charges have not yet been filed. This individual has a history of over 20 prior arrests, according to sources. Meanwhile, there have been no arrests made in relation to the stabbing of the 24-year-old man.
The violent episodes occurred shortly after the conclusion of the Mexican Day Parade festivities on 27th Street and Madison Avenue. Despite the close proximity and timing of the incidents, the police do not believe that they are connected. Both cases remain under investigation as authorities work to gather more information and identify any additional suspects.
The incidents serve as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of violence in urban environments and the importance of community safety measures. As the investigation continues, residents and visitors are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
