Two juveniles devised an elaborate plan to break into Macy’s flagship store in the Loop, ultimately succeeding in stealing merchandise before being apprehended by Cook County Sheriff’s Police officers. The duo’s scheme involved hiding inside the store until closing time, utilizing a hand-drawn map complete with tactical notes and timing specifics.

Upon being recognized by store employees from surveillance footage, law enforcement responded to Macy’s on State Street where the juveniles were seen burglarizing the previous night. The video evidence captured the pair exiting the store with stolen items such as sunglasses, cologne, and clothing.

The investigation uncovered a meticulously crafted plan, with officers recovering a hand-drawn map detailing the burglary operation. The map included a sketch of the store layout with notes on the seven floors of the building, specifying “8:00” as the designated “heist time” corresponding with Macy’s closing time on Sunday night.

The map also featured step-by-step tactical instructions, instructing the teens to “hide in fitting rooms until time” and to “scope out floors basement – 5th for primary target” during a specific timeframe. Additionally, the plan outlined the attire the juveniles would wear – “outfits all black with ski mask” described as “yn.”

Following the retrieval of the map, the juveniles were located and found wearing the stolen clothing. During questioning in the presence of their legal guardians, both individuals confessed to hiding in the store and committing the theft. One of the juveniles admitted to creating the detailed map that outlined their plan.

Subsequently, law enforcement executed a search warrant at one of the juveniles’ residences where stolen sunglasses and cologne were recovered. Both individuals were charged with burglary and released to their legal guardians.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance in preventing criminal activities, as well as the effectiveness of law enforcement in investigating and apprehending perpetrators. The detailed planning and execution of the burglary highlight the need for heightened security measures to safeguard commercial establishments against such illicit activities.
