A Tennessee sheriff’s deputy found himself in a dangerous situation while participating in a cop-themed television show called “On Patrol: Live.” Deputy Dalton Swanger from the Knox County Sheriff’s Department was severely beaten by suspect Christopher Hensley during a live broadcast, leaving him in critical condition.

The incident took place in a wooded area in a residential neighborhood in Knoxville. Officers were responding to reports of a shooting in the area and were searching for Hensley, who was believed to be armed. The situation escalated when Deputy Swanger confronted Hensley, who then attacked him with a brick or a rock, causing Swanger to fall to the ground.

The entire studio watching the live broadcast was shocked as Swanger’s colleagues rushed to his aid and pulled him to safety. Swanger, despite his injuries, tried to stand up and reassured his team, saying, “I’m going to be heavy.” His girlfriend, who was watching the broadcast, witnessed the brutal assault.

After being rescued from the woods, Swanger was rushed to the hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit. Although he was initially unresponsive, there have been some positive developments in his recovery, with reports indicating that he is now able to move all four of his limbs.

Hensley was apprehended after the broadcast ended and has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault on a first responder, possession of a firearm with intent to go armed, and drug-related offenses. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Deputy Swanger and his family, raising over $65,000.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is closely monitoring Swanger’s progress and providing updates on his condition. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face in the line of duty, even during seemingly routine operations.
