Texas Teenager Karmelo Anthony Indicted for First-Degree Murder in High School Stabbing Case

Karmelo Anthony, a 17-year-old teenager from Texas, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a high school track meet in April. The incident occurred during the University Interscholastic League’s District 11-5A championship on April 2, where a dispute over a seat escalated into a tragic altercation.

After weeks of presenting evidence to the grand jury, Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis announced on Tuesday that Karmelo Anthony had been indicted for first-degree murder in the case. The decision was made following a thorough review of the evidence presented, leading to the formal charges against Anthony.

The case sparked outrage when Anthony was released on a $250,000 bond following the alleged stabbing. Reports revealed that he was residing with his family in a $900,000 home in a gated community in Frisco, Texas, where rent is estimated to be $3,500 per month. Despite claiming financial hardship, Anthony was able to secure a reduction in his bond from $1 million to $250,000.

According to neighbors, Anthony even purchased a new car after the incident, raising questions about his financial situation. However, his family maintains his innocence, stating on a fundraising page that the narrative being spread is false, unjust, and harmful. The fundraiser has garnered over $530,000 in donations to cover legal fees for Anthony’s defense.

In response to the indictment, Anthony’s lawyer, Mike Howard, released a video message reiterating the claim that his client was acting in self-defense. Howard expressed confidence that once all the facts are presented, justice will prevail, and the truth will come to light. Anthony faces the possibility of life in prison if convicted of the charges brought against him.

Austin Metcalf, the victim in this tragic incident, was a junior at Memorial High School in Frisco, Texas. The loss of his life has had a profound impact on the community, with many seeking justice for his untimely death. As the legal proceedings unfold, the DA’s office is committed to ensuring that the case is thoroughly investigated and that justice is served for all parties involved.
