Japanese Remake of “Girl From Nowhere” Set to Premiere on Fuji Television
Thailand’s popular mystery-thriller series “Girl From Nowhere” is set to make its international debut with a Japanese remake titled “Transfer Student Nanno.” Produced by Fuji Television in collaboration with GMM Studios International, the series will be available for streaming exclusively on Fuji Television’s FOD platform starting April 24.
Based on Season 1 of the original Thai series, the Japanese adaptation consists of six episodes, each reimagining the story in a Japanese setting with a different director for each installment. The lineup of directors includes Tsutsumi Yukihiko, Kumakiri Kazuyoshi, Yoo Youngseon, and Hatanaka Miyuki, bringing their unique vision to the series.
The lead role of Nanno, a mysterious transfer student who exposes the moral flaws of those around her, is portrayed by 20-year-old Nakajima Arisa in her screen debut. The series explores the dark secrets and hidden agendas within various school environments, providing a gripping narrative for viewers.
The original “Girl From Nowhere” series premiered on Thailand’s GMM25 in 2018 and gained international popularity after being picked up by Netflix. The success of the show led to a second season and a new installment titled “Girl From Nowhere: The Reset.” The Japanese remake marks the franchise’s expansion into new territories.
Ekachai Uekrongtham, chief content officer and managing director of GMM Studios International, expressed excitement about bringing the “Girl From Nowhere” franchise to Japan in partnership with Fuji Television. He described the remake as part of a broader strategy to grow the series into a global intellectual property with multi-platform transmedia expansion.
