A PROCLAMATION
In the wake of America’s victory over oppressive rule during the Revolutionary War, President George Washington set the precedent for our National Day of Thanksgiving in 1789. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging divine providence, expressing gratitude for blessings, and seeking protection. Fast forward several decades to the Civil War, where President Abraham Lincoln called for a day of Thanksgiving, urging the nation to unite in gratitude toward a benevolent Creator. This enduring spirit of reverence and appreciation has been the bedrock of American resilience and strength throughout history.
From the early settlers who ventured into uncharted territory and the revolutionaries who fought for independence, to the pioneers who expanded our frontiers and the brave souls who safeguarded our liberties overseas, the essence of gratitude that marked the first Thanksgiving more than four centuries ago remains a cornerstone of American identity.
This year, we find ourselves the recipients of countless blessings, not just in America but globally. As we express our gratitude, we also recognize the strides made through effective leadership and practical policies. The American economy is experiencing a robust recovery, efforts to alleviate living costs are underway, and a new wave of global peace is emerging. Our sovereignty is being reaffirmed, and the American spirit is revitalizing with unprecedented vigor.
As we approach the milestone of 250 years since our nation declared independence, this Thanksgiving provides an opportunity to reflect on the tenacity and unwavering spirit of our historical figures. We commit ourselves to forging a future that pays homage to their sacrifices. Most importantly, we express our heartfelt thanks to the Almighty for His boundless love and blessings.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by the authority vested in me through the Constitution and the laws of our great nation, hereby proclaim Thursday, November 27, 2025, as a National Day of Thanksgiving. I urge all Americans to come together, whether in their homes or places of worship, to offer prayers of gratitude for our many blessings.
