The arrival of the Jeep Recon, an all-electric SUV boasting an impressive estimated range of 250 miles, has taken many by surprise. The vehicle is part of Jeep’s strategy to dominate the electrified SUV market, with plans to have EVs account for half of its sales in North America by 2030.

Initially announced three years ago alongside the Wagoneer S model, the Jeep Recon faced delays while other automakers scaled back their ambitious EV plans due to lower than expected demand. However, despite these challenges, the Jeep Recon has persevered and is now set to go into production at the Toluca Assembly Plant in Mexico next year, with a starting price of $65,000.

One of the standout features of the Jeep Recon is its “Trail Rated” badge, indicating its off-roading capabilities. The vehicle comes equipped with the brand’s Selec-Terrain traction management system, underbody protection, tow hooks, off-road tires, and e-locker axle technology for enhanced performance on rough terrain.

Jeep’s CEO, Bob Broderdorf, expressed excitement about the Jeep Recon, highlighting how electrification can enhance off-road experiences by providing instant torque, precise control, and a quieter driving experience. The vehicle also features the North American Charging System for select EVs, allowing owners to access thousands of Tesla supercharging stations with an adapter.

Under the hood, the Jeep Recon boasts a 100-kilowatt-hour battery pack delivering 650 horsepower and 620 pound-feet of torque, enabling it to accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 3.6 seconds. The interior is equipped with a 14.5-inch horizontal touchscreen, the largest ever seen in a Jeep, along with classic features like Wrangler-inspired LED taillamps, a swing gate, and removable doors.

As the Jeep Recon prepares to hit the market, the big question remains – will SUV enthusiasts embrace this all-electric offering, especially with the base model of the 2026 Wrangler starting at a lower price point? The combination of powerful performance, cutting-edge technology, and iconic design elements may be just what it takes to win over American consumers seeking a unique and eco-friendly SUV experience.
