The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, located on the grounds of the Bretton Hall estate in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, was established in 1977 by Peter Murray, a lecturer in art history. What started as a modest idea has now grown into the largest sculpture park in Europe, spanning 500 acres. The park boasts an impressive collection of sculptures, including works by renowned artists such as Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth. Visitors can admire permanent and long-term installations by artists like Helen Escobedo, Antony Gormley, Andy Goldsworthy, and James Turrell.

One of the highlights of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park is a major exhibition by South African artist William Kentridge. The exhibition features several of Kentridge’s large-scale bronzes and six new monumental colored sculptures that are displayed in the park’s historic landscape. This summer, visitors can immerse themselves in Kentridge’s captivating and thought-provoking artworks while exploring the picturesque surroundings of the park.

Moving across the Mediterranean to Cyprus, the Museum of Underwater Sculpture in Ayia Napa offers a truly unique artistic experience. Situated 200 meters from the coastline, the underwater sculpture forest features 93 sculptures by artist Jason deCaires Taylor. These sculptures, including trees, plants, children playing, and mythical creatures, aim to explore the relationship between man and nature. Visitors can access the submerged sculpture park by snorkeling, free diving, or scuba diving, providing a one-of-a-kind opportunity to engage with art in a spectacular underwater setting.

In Spain, the Solo Sculpture Trail in Matarraña offers another immersive art experience. The trail features a series of sculptures set amidst the stunning natural landscapes of the region. Visitors can wander through the trail and encounter works by artists like Claudia Comte, whose marble leaves sculpture adds a touch of artistic elegance to the surroundings. The Solo Sculpture Trail provides a peaceful and contemplative space for art enthusiasts to connect with nature and art in a harmonious way.

These three unique sculpture parks offer visitors the opportunity to engage with art in diverse and captivating settings.
