Chilean cinema has long been known for its auteur-driven approach, with filmmakers like Pablo Larraín and Sebastián Lelio making waves on the international stage. However, at the 2026 Berlin International Film Festival, Chile is making a name for itself in the world of television as well. With three series featured in the lineup, including “The House of the Spirits,” “Raza Brava,” and “Hidden Island,” Chile is proving to be a force to be reckoned with in the TV industry.

Former Netflix executive Erik Barmack, who is now working with Wild Sheep Content, praises Chilean filmmakers for taking risks and producing high-quality content on limited budgets. However, he notes that there are still challenges in terms of financing, with a lack of private investment hindering the industry’s growth.

“The House of the Spirits” is one of the most ambitious series to come out of Chile, based on Isabel Allende’s bestselling novel. The series, shot entirely in Chile, features a talented cast and crew, including directors Francisca Alegría and Andrés Wood, as well as writer-showrunner-actress Fernanda Urrejola. The story follows three generations of women and their intertwined lives, set against the backdrop of Chile’s social and political upheaval.

“Raza Brava” delves into the world of Chilean soccer, following a young boy from the slums as he navigates the power struggles and crime within the sport. Inspired by films like “City of God,” the series explores themes of loyalty and survival in a gripping narrative that resonates with audiences across Latin America.

“Hidden Island” takes viewers to southern Patagonia, where a detective investigates the disappearance of a Mexican archaeology student searching for a mythical island. With a mix of thriller and mystery, the series promises to keep audiences on the edge of their seats with its intriguing storyline and talented cast.
