Apple TV has decided to cancel the thriller series “The Last Frontier” after just one season. The show, which starred Jason Clarke as U.S. Marshal Frank Remnick, revolved around the aftermath of a prison transport plane crash in the remote wilderness of Alaska. As violent inmates are set free, Remnick must protect the town and uncover a larger conspiracy at play.

In addition to Clarke, the series also featured Dominic Cooper, Haley Bennett, Simone Kessell, Dallas Goldtooth, Tait Blum, and Alfre Woodard. Created by Jon Bokenkamp and Richard D’Ovidio, the show received mixed reviews from critics, with a 46% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While the first episode was praised for its initial intrigue, some felt that the overall plot became convoluted and generic as the season progressed.

“The Last Frontier” premiered on Oct. 10 and concluded its first season on Dec. 5. Despite the cancellation, Bokenkamp and D’Ovidio expressed interest in exploring new storylines for a potential second season. Ideas included a change of location to a different setting, such as a beach, as well as expanding the scope of the U.S. Marshals’ jurisdiction to hunt down criminals worldwide.

Overall, “The Last Frontier” may have come to an end after its first season, but the creators and cast members were hopeful for the possibility of future adventures and challenges for Frank Remnick and his team. Fans of the show can still enjoy the thrilling escapades of the lone U.S. marshal as they navigate through the rugged landscapes of Alaska and beyond.
