The Mediapro Studio has officially announced the establishment of a new office for its Cimarrón division in Bogotá, Colombia, aiming to enhance its reach within the vibrant Latin American audiovisual sector.
This strategic expansion emphasizes The Mediapro Studio’s dedication to the burgeoning audiovisual landscape in Latin America, where Cimarrón has been making waves across Uruguay, Mexico, and Argentina. Furthermore, it underscores Colombia’s emergence as a vital production center, which is supported by attractive incentives, cost-effective production solutions, a wealth of skilled professionals—highlighted by Netflix’s ambitious adaptation of “One Hundred Years of Solitude”—and a diverse array of filming locales.
Javier Esteban, the International Director of The Mediapro Studio, stated, “The establishment of Cimarrón in Colombia is a significant milestone that reinforces our strong presence in Latin America. It reflects a market that is constantly evolving and our commitment to quickly adapt to the needs of our clients and partners within an increasingly globalized framework.”
Cimarrón’s inaugural project in Colombia is the romantic comedy titled “Atrápelo quien pueda,” which translates roughly to “Catch Him If You Can.” This production is in collaboration with The Mediapro Studio, U.S. Hispanic network Telemundo, and the leading Mexican cinema exhibitor-distributor Cinépolis. Filming for this exciting project commenced on September 29, and features renowned actor Jaime Camil (“Jane the Virgin”) in the lead role, directed by Alfonso Pineda Ulloa, known for works such as “Todavía conmigo” and “Es por su bien.”
To lead operations for Cimarrón in Colombia, seasoned producer-director Julián Duque has been appointed. Duque brings with him nearly two decades of rich experience across scripted and documentary content, as well as advertising within both Latin America and the United States.
Santiago López, the CEO of Cimarrón, commented on this expansion stating, “This move is a direct response to the increasing interest shown by international studios and platforms in producing content within Latin America. Colombia has always inspired our work, and this step represents a strategic advancement for us. Supported by The Mediapro Studio, dynamic local teams, and a well-established regional network, the new office in Colombia will enable us to evolve as producers and engage with a wider array of emerging talents.”
Esteban further noted, “The launch of Cimarrón in Colombia is a crucial component of The Mediapro Studio’s strategy to meet global demands through agile and localized production capabilities. We see Colombia not merely as a filming location but as a strategic base for our production efforts.”
Joined with The Mediapro Studio in 2023, Cimarrón has already provided production services for notable projects such as J.A. Bayona’s Oscar-nominated film “Society of the Snow” and is currently working on the remake of “The Kiss of the Spiderwoman,” featuring Jennifer Lopez and Diego Luna, under the production of Ben Affleck’s Artist Equity and directed by Bill Condon.
Among its original productions are acclaimed series like “Barrabrava” (Prime Video), which won the Platino Award for Best Ibero-American Series of the Year; “Amsterdam” (HBO Max); and “Sentencia” (Prime Video). On the film front, it boasts notable titles like “The Delinquents,” “A Ravaging Wind” by Paula Hernández, and “Power Alley” (“Levante”) by Lillah Halla, which received the Fipresci Prize at Cannes Critics’ Week in 2023.
