The introduction of the Pixel 10 series marks a significant milestone for Google.

Not only does this new lineup bring Google’s smartphone count to double digits, but it also debuts Qi2 wireless charging support, making it the first in the company’s history.

While wireless charging may seem like a minor upgrade, it paves the way for an array of innovative magnetic charging accessories. At long last, Android users have a solid counterpart to the iPhone’s MagSafe system.

Before delving into the expanding range of third-party Pixelsnap accessories, let’s take a closer look at the first-party accessories directly from Google.

As someone who typically prefers wired charging over wireless, one accessory immediately captured my attention: the Pixelsnap Ring Stand. This accessory stands out among others; it lacks any charging infrastructure, consisting of a simple disc crafted from plastic and metal that magnetically secures itself in place.

What could the purpose of this seemingly simple device be? This was an initial question I pondered before putting it to the test. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I came to appreciate it.

Here are four compelling reasons to consider the Pixelsnap Ring Stand, along with one noteworthy drawback.

Magnetic Appeal

Yes, I acknowledge that strong magnets are the cornerstone of the Pixelsnap design.

What I didn’t anticipate, however, was that the magnets would possess enough strength to allow me to maneuver the Pixel 10 Pro XL with just my pinky finger! This speaks volumes about the engineering behind Google’s product.

The Pixelsnap Ring Stand locks into place with a satisfying click and is remarkably stable. Using just the metal ring to move my device around felt secure, a testament to Google’s thoughtful design.

Even with the official case attached (make sure any third-party cases are compatible), the connection remained impressively firm.

Who would have thought the magnets could allow me to move my Pixel 10 Pro XL with just my pinky?

Removing it is straightforward too; it just requires a little upward force while holding the phone steady, and it pops off effortlessly.

Additionally, rotating the device is a breeze; you’ll appreciate this feature when utilizing its primary function…

A Standing Ovation

As the name suggests, the Pixelsnap Ring Stand’s primary functionality is as a stand. As someone who enjoys streaming content on my phone but loathes holding it for long periods, this feature is a significant advantage.

Over the years, I’ve tried various phone stands, but I underestimated the versatility a simple metal ring could provide. The Ring Stand rotates a full 360 degrees, accommodating both portrait and landscape modes effortlessly.

Unlike many stands that limit to a few preset angles, this one allows you to prop your Pixel 10 Pro XL up at almost any angle.

Most of my video calls are typically conducted via a laptop, but if I ever wanted to reach out to a friend using WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger, the Ring Stand would undoubtedly be an indispensable resource.

It’s simply a stand, yes, but it stands out as the best phone stand I’ve ever utilized.

PopSocket Who?

In the 2010s, PopSockets enjoyed unrivaled popularity. Their simplicity afforded users enhanced grip, a necessity given the increasing size and slipperiness of modern handsets.

Though their prominence has declined in recent years, the necessity for a secure grip remains. Google has evidently tapped into this market with the Pixelsnap Ring Stand, which provides an excellent grip on my sizeable 6.8-inch Pixel 10 Pro XL.

While PopSockets often suffered from adhesive failures, the Pixelsnap Ring Stand boasts a robust connection, essentially delivering a superior version of a PopSocket that also serves as a stand.

Slimline Satisfaction

I initially hesitated to embrace the Pixelsnap Ring Stand, primarily due to concerns over the additional bulk it might introduce to my phone. The Pixel 10 Pro XL already weighs in at 232g, and my current official case adds 37.6g. Could I justify another 28g accessory?

As it turns out, the answer is a resounding yes! After a few days of using the Ring Stand, I found it had negligible impact on my phone experience. While it felt slightly heavier, it never became cumbersome to hold.

It’s simply a stand, yes, but it stands out as the best phone stand I’ve ever utilized.

The accessory’s slim profile, measuring just 3.9mm when closed, ensures it doesn’t make my device feel bulky at all.

In fact, it protrudes significantly less than the camera bar on the rear of the Pixel 10 Pro XL. If you can live with that substantial bump, adding the Pixelsnap Ring Stand should pose no issue at all.

How Much?!

Despite its impressive performance and versatility, the Pixelsnap Ring Stand comes with one significant drawback: its cost.

Currently, the price tag sits at ÂŁ29.99/$29.99 on the official Google Store or available on Amazon UK. In my view, this is three times the price point where it should reasonably sit. The markups must be substantial!

Make no mistake, it certainly feels like a quality product. Yet, at its core, it’s merely a small disc of plastic with embedded magnets and a metal ring. Nothing about it justifies the £30/$30 price point.

While it isn’t an exorbitant expense—especially when considering that a Pixel 10 phone starts at around £799/$799—it’s too steep for an impulsive purchase. One must be confident in their potential use of it regularly.

Ultimately, I would recommend prioritizing a dedicated charger to maximize the rapid wired charging capabilities of the Pixel 10 series over investing in this accessory. In a direct comparison of importance, it’s an easy decision.
