Amazon MGM Studios Distribution, under the leadership of Chris Ottinger, is making strides in the entertainment industry by offering third parties the opportunity to access some of the studio’s most high-profile and costly titles. Among these titles are “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” and “Citadel,” alongside two upcoming series, “Butterfly” and “Countdown.”
Ottinger revealed that “Butterfly” and “Countdown” will follow the traditional release window pattern, becoming available 18 months after their initial season runs. The feedback from buyers during the LA Screenings presentation was overwhelmingly positive, indicating a strong interest in these shows.
When it comes to the “Lord of the Rings” franchise, Ottinger emphasized the premium nature of the product, stating, “We would want premium pricing because it’s a premium product.” The success of the first season of “The Rings of Power” and the subsequent seasons on Prime Video has set a high standard for the series, making it a valuable asset for potential partners.
Since its launch in May 2023, Amazon MGM Studios Distribution has brought over 50 Amazon Original Movies to the market and handled sales of popular franchises such as “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “The Handmaid’s Tale,” and “James Bond.” Ottinger’s experience in the industry has been instrumental in the success of the distribution arm, which has seen a positive impact on Prime Video’s viewership.
The division is actively participating in major industry events like the Upfronts and LA Screenings, with plans to showcase their current and upcoming slate at MIPCOM. Talks are already underway with key players in the industry, including ITV, BBC, TF1, and Mediaset, as well as Latin American buyers like Televisa and Globo.
With Prime Video reaching over 200 million subscribers worldwide, Amazon MGM Studios Distribution is poised to continue its success in the competitive streaming market. The studio’s strategic approach to content distribution and partnerships is paving the way for future growth and expansion in the evolving entertainment landscape.
