David Kaff, best known for his role as keyboardist Viv Savage in the iconic film “This is Spinal Tap,” has passed away.
Kaff’s band, “Mutual of Alamedaâs Wild Kingdom,” announced on Facebook that he peacefully passed away in his sleep, with no cause of death disclosed.
The hard rock group expressed their devastation at Kaff’s death, highlighting his kindness, quick wit, and ability to bring smiles to people’s faces.
Known as David Kaffinetti, he began his music career as a founding member of the British rock band “Rare Bird” from 1969 to 1975, achieving worldwide success with hits like “Sympathy.”
In 1984, Kaff landed a significant role in Rob Reiner’s mockumentary “This Is Spinal Tap” as Viv Savage, the keyboard player in the fictional English rock band.
His character in the movie had memorable lines such as “Quite exciting, this computer magic!” and “Have a good timeâŠall the time.”
Although “Spinal Tap” was a fictional band, Kaff and the cast performed live shows during the movie’s release, including an appearance on “Saturday Night Live.” Kaff departed from the band soon after, cutting all ties.
David Kaff passed away at the age of 79.
