The Met Gala has always been a source of entertainment for many people, especially when it comes to the memes that follow the event. However, this year seemed to be lacking in the meme department. The usual hilarity that ensues after the Gala, with jokes about celebrities tripping on the red carpet or wearing outrageous outfits, was noticeably absent.

One tweet pointed out that Sabrina Carpenter looked like she was on track to becoming the sexy Green M&M, which, while amusing, was not enough to sustain the usual meme frenzy that accompanies the Met Gala. It seems that most attendees played it safe with their fashion choices this year, opting for classic and understated looks that didn’t leave much room for meme-worthy content.

This lack of inspiration and risk-taking was disappointing, especially considering the theme of the event, “Tailored For You,” which could have led to more creative and daring fashion choices. Instead, many attendees played it safe, sticking to traditional suits and dresses that didn’t quite capture the essence of the theme.

What made the situation even more disheartening was the fact that just a block away from the Gala, pro-Palestine protesters were gathered in the pouring rain, advocating for their cause. The contrast between the glitz and glamour of the Gala and the real-world issues being protested just outside its doors was stark.

As a journalist who covered the event, it was clear that the Gala’s festivities paled in comparison to the important issues being raised by the protesters. The lack of substance and meaningful engagement at the Gala was a stark reminder of the disconnect between the elite attendees and the real world.

In the end, the Gala may have lacked the usual meme-worthy moments, but it served as a reminder of the importance of using platforms like this to raise awareness and advocate for meaningful causes. Hopefully, in the future, events like the Met Gala will be used as opportunities to spark conversations and drive positive change, rather than just being a showcase for fancy clothes and celebrity sightings.
