TikTok Shop Introduces Digital Gift Cards for Easier Shopping Experience
The holiday season just got a whole lot easier with TikTok Shop’s latest feature — digital gift cards. This new offering allows users to purchase gift cards ranging from $10 to $500, making it convenient to help friends and family shop from the millions of products available on the app.
Launched strategically during the holiday season, TikTok Shop aims to showcase its value in the market during this crucial time. With this move into digital gifting, TikTok Shop is now in direct competition with e-commerce giants like Amazon and eBay, both of which also offer gift card options. Additionally, TikTok Shop has recently expanded into luxury retail, further solidifying its position in the e-commerce industry.
What sets TikTok Shop’s gift cards apart is the ability to personalize them with a wide range of animated designs. From thank you cards to birthday wishes and even wedding greetings, there is an animation for every occasion. The gift cards are delivered via email and must be redeemed by recipients who have a TikTok account. Once redeemed, the card’s value is instantly credited to their TikTok Balance, allowing them to make purchases on the app. Recipients can even reply with a thank-you note or send a gift card in return.
While the gift cards are currently only available for purchase in the U.S., TikTok has plans to add more features to personalize the gift cards further. By early 2026, users will be able to record or upload video messages to attach to their digital gift cards. The experience will also include an “interactive unboxing” feature that captures the recipient’s reaction in real-time, adding a unique touch to the gifting experience.
Despite TikTok Shop’s recent success with over $500 million in sales during Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the company faces uncertainty in the U.S. due to the impending sale of its operations to an American investor group. If the sale does not go through, TikTok Shop could potentially face a ban in the country. President Trump has extended the deadline to January 23, 2026, leaving TikTok’s future in the U.S. hanging in the balance.
