Al Roker, the beloved Today show anchor and meteorologist, recently opened up about a health scare he experienced in late 2022. At the age of 70, Roker was hospitalized with blood clots in his legs and lungs, which led to him missing NBC’s coverage of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade for the first time in 27 years. Shortly after returning home, Roker was rushed back to the hospital in December 2022 due to internal bleeding caused by ulcers. During emergency surgery, doctors had to resect his colon and remove his gall bladder.

In a candid interview with People magazine, Roker revealed that his doctor mentioned how his physical condition played a crucial role in his survival. His wife, Deborah Roberts, an ABC News correspondent, also shared the harrowing experience, describing it as the toughest challenge they’ve faced as a family.

After undergoing treatment, Roker made a triumphant return to the Today show in January 2023. He expressed gratitude for feeling well despite losing half of his blood during the ordeal. Roker also discussed his weight management journey, revealing that he underwent gastric bypass surgery in 2002 when his weight exceeded 300 pounds.

Roker emphasized that there is no “magic bullet” for weight loss and highlighted the importance of consistent effort. He mentioned running on the treadmill daily and incorporating 10 minutes of weight training into his routine. Roker’s commitment to maintaining a healthy lifestyle serves as a reminder that perseverance is key in achieving long-term wellness goals.

Additionally, Roker shared his practice of weighing himself daily as a way to stay accountable. He acknowledged that fluctuations in weight are normal and emphasized the importance of self-reflection and resilience in overcoming setbacks.
