Germany legend Toni Kroos recently shared his predictions for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, backing Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal as a favorite over Lionel Messi’s Argentina. The former Real Madrid midfielder expressed his belief that the defending champions might not be among the top contenders next summer.

During an interview on Brazil legend Romario’s YouTube channel, Kroos named Spain, France, Morocco, and Portugal as his top picks for the World Cup. Surprisingly, he did not include traditional powerhouses like Germany, Brazil, and Argentina in his list of potential winners. Kroos stated, “Spain, Portugal, and France. Morocco could be a surprise because technically they have improved a lot in recent years. Germany and Brazil are not in the top 5.”

Kroos also voiced his concerns about the expansion of the tournament to 48 teams, fearing that it might reduce the overall quality of the competition. He predicted that the group stage matches could see lopsided scores like 4-0 or 5-0, which may not appeal to fans looking for high-quality, competitive games.

Notably, both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are expected to make history at the 2026 FIFA World Cup by becoming the first footballers to feature in six editions of the tournament. As two of the greatest players of their generation, all eyes will be on them as they aim to lead their respective nations to glory on the biggest stage in football.

In contrast, Messi recently shared his own World Cup favorites during an interview with ESPN. The Argentine star mentioned Spain, France, England, Brazil, and Germany as the teams to watch out for at the tournament, omitting Ronaldo’s Portugal from his list of contenders. Messi acknowledged the tough competition that Argentina will face as the defending champions and expressed his determination to continue competing at the highest level.

With both Argentina and Portugal securing their spots at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, fans are eagerly anticipating a potential showdown between Messi and Ronaldo in the quarterfinals. If both players lead their teams to success in the group stage and knockout rounds, a historic clash between the two football icons could be on the cards.

As the excitement builds for the upcoming World Cup, the rivalry between Messi and Ronaldo continues to captivate football fans worldwide. Their individual brilliance and leadership on the field will undoubtedly play a significant role in shaping the narrative of the tournament as they strive to achieve glory for their nations.

In conclusion, the stage is set for an epic showdown in Qatar, with Kroos, Messi, and Ronaldo all playing pivotal roles in the drama that will unfold on the world’s biggest football stage. Stay tuned for more updates as the countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup begins.
