The Dorgan family recently opened up about the tragic events that unfolded at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Rhode Island. Robert Dorgan, a transgender father who also went by the name Roberta Esposito, carried out a horrific shooting at a high school hockey tournament, resulting in the deaths of his adult son, Aidan, and his ex-wife, Rhonda Dorgan.
In a statement released through their attorney Joseph Signore, the Dorgan family expressed their deep sorrow and pain over the incident. They emphasized the profound impact the tragedy has had on their family and extended their thoughts to all those affected by the heartbreaking events at the arena.
The shooting took place during a high school senior event at the ice hockey rink, where Robert Dorgan targeted his own family members. Armed with firearms, he fatally shot his son and ex-wife in the stands, causing chaos and panic among the attendees who were present to celebrate senior night.
Harrowing footage captured the moment Dorgan opened fire, with families fleeing for safety as the shots rang out. In addition to the fatalities, Rhonda’s parents and a family friend were also injured and remain in critical condition at a Rhode Island hospital.
Dorgan’s daughter from another relationship, Amanda Wallace-Hubbard, spoke out about the targeted nature of the attack, emphasizing that it was a specific vendetta against their family and not a random act of violence. She expressed gratitude towards a brave individual who intervened and prevented further harm.
The tragic incident has been described by police as a “family dispute,” with reports indicating that Dorgan had undergone gender reassignment surgery in 2020. His transgender identity and unstable behavior had been the subject of family court battles leading up to the shooting.
Following the shooting, Dorgan turned the gun on himself, bringing the violent rampage to an end. The family continues to grapple with the aftermath of the tragedy, as they try to make sense of the devastating loss and come to terms with the events that transpired at the hockey tournament.
