Recent changes in British law now allow transgender police officers to conduct strip searches on women in custody.
As reported by The Daily Mail, the British Transport Police has implemented a new policy called “Transgender and Non-Binary Search Position,” which permits transgender officers who have transitioned and obtained a gender recognition certificate to conduct intimate searches on women.
The policy, approved in September by the assistant chief constable for network policing, states that transgender and non-binary individuals will be recognized based on their self-identified gender, regardless of legal documentation.
According to The Daily Mail:
The guidance from British Transport Police specifies that officers/staff will only search persons of the same sex as indicated on their birth certificate or gender recognition certificate. This includes more thorough searches involving the removal of clothing.
