Travis Decker, a fugitive dad accused of killing his three young daughters, was captured on a police dashboard camera just three days before the tragic incident. The footage showed Decker involved in a car accident in Wenatchee, Washington, where he begged the motorist not to call the police after the collision.
The video, which lasted nearly 20 minutes, captured Decker’s strange behavior as he leaned against his pick-up truck and interacted with the responding officer. The motorist involved in the accident described Decker as intimidating and not in his right state of mind during their encounter.
It was revealed that Decker had been involved in another traffic accident on May 4, where he rear-ended a Honda CRV and fled the scene. The driver of the Honda managed to provide authorities with Decker’s license plate number, leading to his identification in the subsequent incident.
The disturbing encounter with Decker ended with an uncomfortable nine-second handshake, during which he repeatedly asked the motorist if he was going to be okay. The motorist was shocked to see Decker’s face on the news just three days later, as the accused killer made headlines for the tragic deaths of his daughters.
On May 30, Decker allegedly suffocated his daughters, Paityn, Evelyn, and Olivia, by zip-tying plastic bags over their heads, just hours after picking them up for a planned visitation. The girls’ bodies were found bound with zip ties near Rock Island Campground, not far from Decker’s abandoned truck.
Authorities are still searching for Decker, who is considered a danger to the public. Despite early leads in the search, there is uncertainty about his whereabouts, with the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office stating that there is no certain evidence of his current location. US Marshals recently called off a search in Idaho after a false sighting of a man resembling Decker exhibiting odd behavior in Sawtooth National Forest.
The heartbreaking tragedy has left the community in mourning, with the girls’ mother, Whitney Decker, expressing her hope that their legacy lives on in everyone’s hearts. As the search for Travis Decker continues, authorities remain committed to seeking justice for Paityn, Evelyn, and Olivia, while ensuring the safety of the public.
