President Donald Trump was the target of jokes by Grammys host Trevor Noah on Sunday, who poked fun at Trump’s newfound admiration for rapper Nicki Minaj.
During his opening monologue, Noah playfully interacted with the audience and noticed Minaj’s absence, joking that she was at the White House discussing “very important issues” with Trump. He then launched into an impression of the president boasting about having the “biggest ass.”
Noah’s quip about Minaj drew cheers from the crowd, as did his jabs at Trump, who recently showed public support for the rapper. The humor sparked laughter from celebrities like John Legend, Chrissy Teigen, Jennifer Hudson, and Jeff Goldblum.
In response to Noah’s jokes, Minaj seemed to accuse the comedian of not “coming out the closet” in a social media rant.
Elsewhere in his monologue, Noah highlighted Lauryn Hill’s upcoming performance at the Grammys, comparing it to her last appearance in 1999. He used this as a segue to take a swipe at the Trump administration, referencing past scandals and changes over the years.
