CENTENNIAL — James Craig was faced with a difficult situation.
He had met a woman named Karin Cain at a conference in Las Vegas, and she was under the impression that he was in the process of divorcing his wife, Angela Craig. However, in reality, James and Angela were still living together as husband and wife.
During the opening statements of James Craig’s murder trial, it was revealed that he was charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Angela Craig. She passed away from lethal doses of cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, a decongestant found in over-the-counter eyedrops.
Prosecutors alleged that James Craig had purchased arsenic, eyedrops, and cyanide prior to his wife’s death, conducted online searches on how to poison someone, and was having an affair while facing financial difficulties.
The defense argued that James had been involved in multiple affairs throughout his 23-year marriage, and that Karin Cain was not a unique motive for his actions.

James Craig faces additional charges of solicitation to commit tampering with evidence, perjury, and murder. He allegedly tried to cover up evidence in the case and even attempted to pay an inmate to kill the lead detective on the case.
The prosecution presented evidence that James had conducted numerous searches related to poison on a communal computer at his workplace, and had ordered arsenic and other poisons online.
Angela Craig’s health deteriorated rapidly in the days leading up to her death, and she was hospitalized multiple times before ultimately being declared brain dead and taken off life support.
James and Angela Craig, who had been married for over two decades and shared six children, had their lives shattered by these tragic events.
The legal proceedings surrounding James Craig’s involvement in his wife’s death have been complicated by changes in his legal representation, with one attorney withdrawing due to ethical concerns and another facing personal legal issues.
