Chicago Halloween Robbery and Carjacking Leaves Man and Child Terrified
Gov. JB Pritzker’s plea for a safe Halloween weekend in Illinois fell on deaf ears as a terrifying incident unfolded in Bridgeport on Friday afternoon. In a shocking video obtained by CWBChicago, three armed men were seen pistol-whipping, robbing, and carjacking a man moments after he had helped a young girl out of his car for trick-or-treating.
The victim, a 42-year-old man, had parked his SUV on the 2600 block of South Emerald Avenue and was walking the girl towards a nearby gate when an armed man approached them, brandishing a handgun. The assailant struck the man in the head with the gun, causing him to fall into a fence. Another robber then proceeded to take the man’s belongings while the victim tried to protect himself.
Meanwhile, the young girl stood frozen on the sidewalk, clutching her trick-or-treat bucket, as a third assailant jumped into the driver’s seat of the man’s SUV. Within moments, all three criminals fled in the stolen vehicle, leaving the man and the girl traumatized.
Police later recovered the man’s black Mazda CX-5 in the 300 block of South Maplewood, but the suspects remain at large. The robbers made off with the man’s phone, wallet, and his vehicle.
All three attackers were described as Black men in their early 20s. Despite the horrifying incident, no arrests have been made in connection with the robbery and carjacking.
As Halloween approached, the governor’s call for safety went unheeded, leaving families in Illinois and Chicago on edge. It is essential for law enforcement agencies to step up efforts to ensure the safety and security of residents during festive occasions.
