Just before heading off to his private club in New Jersey for the weekend, Donald Trump hosted an event at the White House aimed at supporting miners and the mining sector.

Trump demonstrated his regard for coal miners by urging the attendees to expedite the proceedings.

The president remarked, “So I didn’t know I was gonna have so many people. I’ll be here all day. If you could go quickly, I would appreciate it, because we have a war to prosecute, okay? That’s my excuse for getting out of here a little bit early. But I’ve done my thing only in the sense that we’re spending hundreds of millions of dollars, and even billions of dollars, in bringing your industry.”

Trump’s desire to leave the event was not driven by the conflict in Iran. Instead, he was keen to depart after a challenging week to unwind at his club for the weekend.

As is typical with Trump events, he veered off-topic, even admitting to taking items from government buildings.
