It has since become clear that Trump’s actions were not part of a complex strategy. His inconsistent behavior stemmed from his inability to create and maintain consistent policies.
On a Monday, Trump addressed reporters in the Oval Office, stating:
We’re protecting by the countries that we’re helping. For instance, you look at the five countries. You have Saudi Arabia, you have UAE, you have Qatar or Qatar, as I always say. You have Qatar, Bahrain. And by the way, you have others. You have Kuwait, and you have others. And they will do very well, but we think it’s appropriate that we’re– we don’t need them.
However, by Tuesday morning, this notion had vanished.
The reason?
Middle Eastern countries informed him that they would not be providing financial support.
In response, Trump reportedly resorted to erratic actions, possibly hoping to distract from his previous statements.
