President Trump Issues Ultimatum to Hamas for Release of Hostages
Following the certification of his 2024 election victory, President-elect Donald Trump delivered a forceful message to Hamas during a press conference at Mar-a-Lago. Trump demanded the immediate release of hostages currently held in the Gaza Strip, warning of severe consequences if his deadline of January 20, his Inauguration Day, is not met.
In his characteristic no-nonsense style, Trump stated, “All hell will break out. If they’re not back by the time I get into office, all hell will break out in the Middle East. It will not be good for Hamas, and it will not be good, frankly, for anyone. All hell will break out.”
The President-elect emphasized the urgency of the situation, highlighting the October 7 attack that led to the abduction of numerous individuals. Trump made it clear that the hostages should have been returned long ago and that the failure to do so would have serious repercussions.
Recent data indicates that out of the 251 hostages taken, approximately 97 are still believed to be held captive in Gaza. Israeli intelligence estimates suggest that around 50 of these hostages may still be alive, although confirming exact numbers remains a challenge due to the volatile nature of the situation.
Steve Witkoff, a trusted ally of President Trump and his special envoy to the Middle East, reiterated the President-elect’s firm stance. Witkoff expressed confidence in Trump’s delegation skills and emphasized the need for swift action. He dismissed any notion that Hamas might try to delay negotiations, affirming that they understood Trump’s message clearly.
As the deadline approaches, the world waits to see how Hamas will respond to President Trump’s ultimatum. With tensions running high and the fate of the hostages hanging in the balance, the international community watches closely to see how this high-stakes diplomatic showdown will unfold.
