President Donald Trump delivered his first State of the Union address of his second term, focusing on health care and drug pricing. He highlighted his efforts to lower prescription drug costs, claiming that his most-favored nation policy had brought prices down to the lowest in the world. However, despite his claims of success, a STAT analysis found that many of the drugs on TrumpRx are available as cheaper generics elsewhere. Trump also proposed shifting government funding from premium tax credits to health accounts resembling health savings accounts, cracking down on fraud in government programs, and requiring parental consent for decisions on issues like gender-affirming care.

In other news, 15 states have sued the Department of Health and Human Services over changes to federal vaccine recommendations. This comes amidst other vaccine-related developments, including the cancellation of a CDC Advisory Committee meeting and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists withdrawing as a liaison organization to ACIP.

A new projection published in Circulation predicts that 6 in 10 women will develop at least one type of cardiovascular disease over the next 25 years. Additionally, nearly a third of girls aged 2 to 19 are forecasted to be categorized as obese by 2050, leading to earlier and more severe cardiovascular events.

Novo Nordisk announced a price cut on its GLP-1 drugs Ozempic, Rybelus, and Wegovy to $675 a month, aiming to expand access for patients. However, the actual impact on affordability may be limited due to the difference between list prices and net prices charged to payers after rebates and discounts.
