President Trump recently initiated the Shield of the Americas Summit, a gathering of Latin American leaders, promising to address concerns about Cuba as the United States ramps up its involvement in the region.
During the summit, Trump assured Latin American leaders that he would address issues related to Cuba, which was a topic of interest for many attendees. He received applause when he pledged to take action on the matter.
The event, held at the Trump National Doral Miami golf course in Florida, was attended by leaders from several Latin American countries.
This move comes amid escalating tensions between the U.S. and Cuba, with Cuban-Americans hoping for a change in the country’s regime.
The Trump administration’s decision to ease restrictions on Venezuelan oil sales to Cuba has impacted the country, which has been facing fuel shortages and power outages affecting millions of residents.
Following the capture of Venezuela’s president earlier this year, there is speculation that similar actions could be taken against Cuba’s current leadership.
Trump also commended Venezuela’s acting-President for cooperating with the U.S. and highlighted the economic benefits that have resulted from American assistance to the country.
He sees the transition in Venezuela as a blueprint for regime changes in other countries.
