President Donald Trump is currently involved in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in an effort to secure a peace deal. However, top US diplomat Marco Rubio has made it clear that if progress is not made soon, Trump will abandon the talks within a matter of days. Rubio emphasized that the US will not continue the negotiations for weeks or months if there is no clear path to a resolution.

The recent meeting in Paris, hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron, brought together officials from the US, Ukraine, UK, and Germany to jump-start the stalled talks. Trump has been pushing for a settlement between Russia and Ukraine since re-engaging with Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier this year. While Ukraine has expressed willingness to consider a temporary ceasefire, Russia has been hesitant to move forward.

Rubio stressed that the US is eager to help facilitate a peace agreement, but if progress is not imminent, they will shift their focus to other pressing issues. He mentioned that another meeting will be held in London next week to further discuss the situation and gather input from Russian officials.

In addition to the peace negotiations, Ukraine recently signed a preliminary agreement with the US regarding the sharing of mineral and energy resources. This agreement, which had been close to completion in February, is seen as a way for Ukraine to repay the US for military aid. Despite a setback in the Oval Office earlier this year, both parties are optimistic about the progress made during the recent discussions in Paris.
