Trump’s Great American State Fair has proven to be a failure. The event appears to be misnamed, as it bears little resemblance to a traditional fair. Those anticipating a mix of a World’s Fair and a local county or state fair would be disappointed. The fair featured only one major ride, which was not operational when visited by The Washingtonian. There were no typical fair foods or games available. The overall atmosphere of the fair was described as “bleak.”
With nearly all musical acts withdrawing, Trump decided to take the spotlight himself by headlining the opening of the Great American State Fair.
NBC News highlighted the low turnout at Trump’s Great American State Fair rally:
Merchandise stands offered red “America Is Back” baseball caps, mimicking Trump’s “Make America Great Again” hats, along with a variety of Freedom 250 shirts, scarves, and trinkets. Vendors provided snacks and soft drinks, but several attendees were disappointed when they found no alcohol available despite signs suggesting otherwise.
Approximately half of the attendees in the crowd of over 1,000 on Wednesday wore clothing featuring Trump’s slogans or image. For many, the chance to see the president took precedence over celebrating America’s 250th birthday.
Trump has been insisting that the event drew a crowd of 45,000 people.
