The initiative, started by Trump, 79, was created as a public-private partnership to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary.
However, shortly after the event’s line-up was announced, several artists began to withdraw due to increasing controversy over its political ties.
Bret Michaels, 63, known as the frontman of Poison, is the most recent performer to pull out.
He explained: “When this opportunity was initially presented to my team, it was framed as a celebration of our country through music and an opportunity to honor our veterans, active military, first responders, teachers, and hardworking Americans from every background.”
In a message shared on social media, Michaels noted that the event had become significantly more divisive than he had expected.
He remarked: “Sadly, what was presented as a national celebration has turned into something much more divisive than I signed up for. There have also been concerns about the safety of my fans, band, crew, family, and myself, including threats that are entirely baseless and unacceptable. As a result, I have made the tough decision to withdraw from this performance.”
Michaels emphasized that his choice was not driven by political considerations.
He continued: “This isn’t about politics. It’s about remaining true to my beliefs. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, a freedom our veterans fought for and something I’ve always respected. But as a father, friend, and bandmate, I must take threats and safety concerns seriously.”
