President Donald Trump stirred controversy on Tuesday with a misleading post on his Truth Social platform, suggesting that windmills are responsible for killing Bald Eagles. The post included a picture of a dead bird under a wind turbine, but it was later revealed that the image was actually of a falcon killed by a wind turbine in Israel, as reported by Haaretz in 2017.

The photo in question clearly shows Hebrew writing on the wind turbine, indicating its location in Israel. This embarrassing blunder by the president was part of a series of posts renewing his criticism of renewable energy sources.

Trump has a history of opposing wind energy, dating back to a proposed offshore wind farm near his golf resort in Scotland nearly two decades ago. He famously claimed that wind farms cause cancer and lamented the presence of a “really ugly wind farm” near his property.

The president’s latest social media outburst comes on the heels of a lawsuit filed by a Virginia offshore wind developer against the government for blocking the construction of its project and four others. This ongoing battle highlights the contentious relationship between Trump and the renewable energy industry.
