During the Rolling Meadows music festival in Christchurch last night, two individuals suffered serious injuries after falling from a Ferris wheel, as reported by the New Zealand Herald.
According to Hato Hone St John, the two men were rushed to Christchurch Hospital in critical condition after the incident occurred around 2.10am on one of the final rides of the evening.
Reports indicated that the accident involved three men who were swinging the bucket they were seated in and were instructed to cease immediately.
As the operator initiated the process of stopping the ride to allow passengers to disembark, the swinging motion of the bucket caused it to tip over, leading to the individuals falling out, as stated by Event Hire director Phil Anderson.
WorkSafe has been informed about the incident, and an independent engineer will conduct a comprehensive technical assessment of the equipment involved.
