Ty Cobb, a former attorney for the Trump White House, criticized President Donald Trump on Saturday for his remarks celebrating the death of Robert Mueller, the former special prosecutor and FBI Director. Cobb labeled Trump a “demented narcissist.”
On MS Now, Cobb stated, “That’s the kind of person President Trump is. He’s a demented narcissist who seriously despises anyone opposing him.”
Robert Mueller passed away on Friday at 81 years old. While the cause of death wasn’t immediately disclosed, reports indicated he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease before his death.
Mueller’s family shared their grief in a statement to the Associated Press on Saturday, expressing, “With deep sadness, we are sharing the news that Bob passed away” on Friday night. They requested privacy during this time.
Mueller was appointed as the special counsel to lead the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. His work drew criticism from Trump, who frequently dismissed the investigation as a “witch hunt.”
On Saturday, Trump made a statement on Truth Social, celebrating Mueller’s death by saying, “Good, I’m glad he’s dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people!”
Cobb, saddened by Mueller’s death, strongly criticized Trump’s remarks and defended Mueller’s legacy. He told MS Now anchor Erielle Reshef that Mueller’s courage and character should never be questioned.
Cobb further expressed, “What the President said today, of course, is petty, shameful, despicable, and undignified. Sadly, that is the president we have, but fortunately, in American history, we’ve had people like Bob Mueller, and hopefully our better angels like Bob can get us beyond the fascism that we’re experiencing at this moment.”
He also criticized Trump’s use of the Department of Justice, claiming it had been turned into a tool for revenge, supported by “cowardly Republicans in Congress.”
Cobb concluded by saying, “Rather than focusing on the despicable response of a demented president, we should really focus on the hero that we lost today, and ideally gain some inspiration and some strength that we can bring out on No Kings Day when we stand up again for our country.”
