Chicago police have issued a warning to Lyft and Uber drivers in the South Shore area regarding a series of robberies and thefts targeting rideshare drivers. The incidents have occurred on the 6700 to 6900 blocks of South Crandon, where eight rideshare drivers have been targeted since August 30.

In each case, the rideshare driver picked up two male customers, one of whom would ask to use the driver’s phone to make a call. Subsequently, both passengers would flee from the car with the device. The situation escalated in two instances when one of the offenders displayed a gun while demanding the driver’s phone.

The incidents were reported on specific dates and times in the following locations:
– 6700 block of South Crandon: August 30 at 12:03 a.m., September 6 between 2 a.m. and 2:15 a.m., September 6 at 4 a.m., September 8 at 5:30 p.m., and September 11 at 12:30 a.m.
– 6800 block of South Crandon: August 30 at 10:30 a.m. and September 9 at 6:18 a.m.
– 6900 block of South Crandon: September 6 between 2 a.m. and 3:30 a.m.

The suspects are described as males between the ages of 12 and 20 wearing hoodies. Chicago police are urging anyone with information to contact detectives at 312-747-8384 and reference crime pattern P24-1-150A.

It is essential for rideshare drivers in the South Shore area to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety while on duty. By staying informed and alert, drivers can help prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
