London:
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed Volodymyr Zelensky to his Downing Street offices with open arms on Saturday, following the Ukrainian leader’s recent meeting with US President Donald Trump.
“You’re very, very welcome here in Downing Street,” Starmer expressed to Zelensky. “And as you’ve heard from the cheers street outside, you have full backing across the United Kingdom, and we stand with you with Ukraine for as long as it may take.”
Starmer emphasized the mutual desire of both leaders to achieve “a lasting peace for Ukraine, based on sovereignty and security for Ukraine — crucial for Europe and the United Kingdom.”
Zelensky acknowledged the outpouring of support from the hundreds gathered outside Downing Street, stating, “I want to thank you, the people of the United Kingdom, for such immense support from the very beginning of this war.”
“I’m delighted that his majesty the king has agreed to meet with me tomorrow, and we are grateful in Ukraine to have such a strategic partner,” he added. “We rely on your support.”
