Marco Arment, known for creating popular apps such as Overcast and Instapaper and having been Tumblr’s chief technology officer, has introduced his latest innovation — a new app for procrastinators named Unforgetful, which serves as an alternative to Apple’s Reminders.

This new application for iOS and Mac integrates with your existing Reminders database and is tailored for those who find Apple’s system lacking.

In his announcement on Friday, Arment stated, “Siri, despite its flaws, has always been proficient at creating tasks in Apple’s Reminders app… However, the Reminders app itself doesn’t suit me at all. I dislike its appearance, functionality, and organization. I don’t even like its icon. There’s nothing about it that I like, so I never open it.”

Arment highlighted specific shortcomings of Reminders, such as its snooze feature and instances where a reminder could be dismissed instead of snoozed, leading to the loss of the reminder. He also mentioned that missing a time setting could result in no notification, leaving tasks incomplete.

Unforgetful addresses these problems by ensuring tasks are not lost. While it might be excessive for some, it is ideal for those who frequently snooze reminders or require consistent prompts to stay organized.

Notifications will persistently repeat, even if missed or dismissed, until the task is completed and removed. This feature prevents losing reminders, particularly for those who dismiss them prematurely.

The snooze function has been improved, with intervals adjusting as you continue to delay tasks. However, it will not bombard you with multiple tasks simultaneously, which could cause inaction.

The app maintains simplicity without tags, different views, or modes — features that Apple’s Reminders app may better accommodate for those seeking advanced functionalities.

In essence, Unforgetful ensures you stay on top of your reminders, whether you input them manually or use Siri, with or without deadlines. By integrating with your existing Apple Reminders, you can continue your usual routine, simply swapping Apple Reminders notifications for those from Unforgetful.

Among various third-party reminder apps, Unforgetful stands out with its seamless Reminders integration. You don’t need to instruct Siri to use Unforgetful when adding reminders, and should you decide against using the app, exporting reminders back to Apple’s database is unnecessary, as they remain there.

Unforgetful also includes its own in-app microphone for voice reminders and a comprehensive set of widgets for the Lock Screen and Control Center.

The app is priced at $19.99 annually and is compatible with both Mac and iOS.
