A United Airlines flight had a terrifying moment when it lost power in one of its engines, causing a brush fire near the tarmac.

Flight UA 803 departed from Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C. on Saturday around 12:20 PM ET. As the plane was taking off, it sparked a brush fire near the runway, according to a spokesperson from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority as reported by People.

Footage from social media captured the alarming sight of the burning brush soon after Flight 803 departed for Japan, with smoke rising from the runway.

The MWAA representative stated, “The fire was quickly extinguished, and the flight safely returned to Dulles, landing at approximately 1:30 PM. The aircraft was inspected by airport fire crews.”

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy provided additional details hours after the incident, explaining that an engine cover detached from the aircraft and caught fire before landing in the brush.

Fortunately, none of the 275 passengers and 15 crew members on board were injured during the incident. Secretary Duffy expressed gratitude to the first responders for their swift actions.
