The Department of Art and Art History at the University at Albany, SUNY, is currently open for applications for its MFA and MA programs in Studio Art. This highly competitive two-year MFA program offers students Teaching or Graduate Assistantship funding, as well as a 50% tuition waiver.

Students in the program can expect regular studio visits with faculty, peers, and visiting artists to provide a variety of perspectives on their work. The goal of the program is to expand and deepen students’ understanding of contemporary art in order to enhance their studio practices. Seminars on contemporary art complement studio classes, helping students develop critical thinking skills and self-awareness.

In this interdisciplinary program, students have the opportunity to work in various mediums such as Painting and Drawing, Printmaking, Sculpture and Installation, and Photography and Related Media. They are granted 24-hour access to spacious, private, and semi-private studios, along with well-equipped common work areas and production facilities.

The faculty, comprised of distinguished artists and art historians, work closely with students to build their graduate portfolios and prepare them for professional careers. MFA students showcase their thesis work in the University Art Museum, while MA students exhibit in the Fine Arts Gallery, both accompanied by public receptions.

The Visiting Artists and Lecturers program invites internationally acclaimed artists to campus for public presentations and individual studio visits with graduate students. The application deadline for the MFA and MA in Studio Art is February 15, 2025.

For more information on the application process, interested individuals can visit albany.edu or contact Adam Frelin, the Graduate Director.
