A football player from the University of Kentucky, Jamarion Wilcox, faces serious allegations after an incident involving a sleeping woman that has led to charges of sexual abuse in the first degree. Wilcox, 21 years old, was arrested on Friday in connection with events that transpired on August 20, as reported by WLKY.
According to court documents, the incident occurred at a residence on South Upper Street in Lexington, where Wilcox allegedly entered the room of a woman who was not his intended target and initiated unwanted contact.
The victim reported to authorities that she awoke to find the football player in her bed, attempting to open her legs without her consent. Upon realizing the situation, she confronted Wilcox, but he reportedly laughed and continued to touch her inappropriately.
Following this encounter, the victim notified her roommate—who Wilcox was originally there to see—and both women confronted him about his behavior. Despite requests for him to leave the bed, Wilcox allegedly refused, prompting the women to contact the police.
“The police came to my apartment to escort him out, but he refused to comply for at least 20 minutes,” stated the victim in court documents, as per the Courier Journal.
The Fayette District Court has since issued a restraining order protecting the victim, mandating that Wilcox maintain a minimum distance of 500 feet from her.
A spokesperson for the University of Kentucky, Susan Lax, acknowledged awareness of the situation involving Wilcox, assuring that the university would be closely monitoring developments as they arise.
Wilcox is currently prohibited from participating in any team activities. Following their opening game against Toledo, head coach Mark Stoops revealed that Wilcox was suspended for a “violation of team rules.”
A native of Douglasville, Georgia, Wilcox was a standout player in the previous season, surpassing 590 rushing yards and scoring two touchdowns on 92 carries, according to ESPN.
Moving forward, Wilcox remains unattended in games this season, with his next court appearance scheduled for November 3, as reported by the Courier Journal.
