Investigation into Off-Duty Suburban Cop Shooting at Off-Duty Chicago Cop’s Vehicle Takes a Twist
CHICAGO — The recent incident involving an off-duty Blue Island police officer shooting at a car occupied by an off-duty Chicago police officer has seen a surprising development.
A few days ago, the off-duty Blue Island police officer was apprehended after allegedly firing at the truck of an off-duty Chicago police officer during a road rage incident last Saturday evening, based on internal CPD communications received by CWBChicago.
Although the Blue Island officer, with over 20 years of experience at the suburban department, was taken into custody, he was subsequently released without facing any charges.
Initial reports suggest that the 24-year-old female Chicago officer, who joined CPD last year, was traveling in the front seat of a Dodge Sierra that was involved in a minor collision with the 47-year-old Blue Island officer around 5:03 p.m. in the 4700 block of South Union.
According to a CPD crash report, a police surveillance camera captured footage of the suburban cop pulling out onto 47th Street without ensuring the path was clear. The report indicates that the suburban officer abruptly hit the brakes, causing the truck with the city cop to collide with his driver’s taillight.
Following the collision, as per internal communication, the suburban cop “pulled up alongside” the Chicago officer’s vehicle. He then “drew his firearm and discharged a single round towards [the Chicago officer’s] vehicle, hitting the passenger side door barrier and bouncing off the front windshield.”
The crash report mentioned that two men and another woman were in the pickup truck with the off-duty CPD officer, and the suburban cop informed investigators that one of them brandished a gun after the crash, prompting him to fear for his safety, as per a source.
The pregnant Chicago officer was taken to a hospital for a check-up. Fortunately, there were no other reported injuries.
