Valmet, a Finnish technology and automation supplier, has recently introduced a new line of press roll covers called Bioneer. These innovative press roll covers are specifically designed to reduce the reliance on fossil-based materials within the pulp and paper industry.
The Bioneer press roll covers are manufactured using a combination of recycled, renewable, and other bio-based materials. By utilizing these environmentally friendly inputs, Valmet aims to assist both the company and its customers in decreasing the consumption of fossil resources during production processes.
One of the unique features of the Bioneer range is the inclusion of product-specific lifecycle assessment (LCA) data. This data provides paper and board producers with valuable information regarding the climate impact associated with each product.
According to Valmet, the Press Roll Cover PF Bioneer can deliver an impressive up to 12.2% reduction in cradle-to-gate COâ‚‚ emissions compared to traditional alternatives. This significant emissions reduction is achieved through the utilization of REDcert-certified renewable and recycled raw materials, applied via a mass balance approach.
Sanna Junttonen, Valmet’s roll covers and maintenance global product manager, highlighted the importance of transparent LCA data in helping customers make informed decisions and track progress towards their climate goals. Additionally, Ulla Kanerva, Valmet’s roll covers and maintenance global technology manager, emphasized the high-performance technology and verified climate impact data offered by the Bioneer roll covers.
This product launch comes on the heels of several successful orders in Valmet’s paper business. In 2025, the company was selected to modernize a paper machine and supply two winders for Wuzhou Special Paper in China. Additionally, Valmet secured an order to provide an advanced automation system to Klingele Paper & Packaging in Germany, further demonstrating the company’s commitment to improving resource efficiency.
